A supervised program of instruction on the fundamentals of Little League baseball. Participants are taught basic baseball skills such as hitting, throwing, catching and base running. Games and team practices are held throughout the season.
The Somerville Little League T-Ball Clinic will begin this coming Saturday April 30th at Conway Field on Somerville Ave at 9 am. We'll run every Saturday until June 11th. If a given Saturday is rained out we'll try our best to reschedule the session.
This Saturday we'll be handing out uniforms(shirt, hat & socks), taking any last minute registrations and getting to the fun part, which is running the kids through the various baseball skill stations.
Our goal is to get the kids comfortable with the fundamentals of the game - throwing, catching, running, and swinging the bat. On some Saturdays we'll break them up into actual games based on shirt/hat color, but the games are very informal since we're working with kids 4 - 6 yrs old. The key is to develop their skills so they are better prepared for the Farm League in a subsequent season.
Players will need their own glove. Bats, balls, and helmets are provided.
As an added bonus we'll be holding our Opening Day ceremony for the entire league immediately following T-ball so stick around to take in the festivities, ceremonial first pitch, and a game played by our older players.
One our great supporters, The Ryan Harrington Foundation, is hosting a 5k road race on Sunday June 12th at 10 am. It is a run/walk for both adults and kids.
This 5k race will start and end at the Blessing of the Bay Boat House in Somerville and follow the Mystic River over to Medford, through the Mystic River Reservation, and back over the Wellington Bridge to the finish. Free shirts to the first 300 registered.
There will be a kids fun run, refreshments, music and family activities including a visit from one of the clowns from Shriner's. Online registration fees are $30.00 for adults (plus processing fees). Kids 13 and under are welcome to come and run at no cost, but children must be registered.
We are also looking for sponsors. As part of sponsorship, we will place the company name on the back of our race day shirts and the company logo on our website. Any questions about sponsorship can be emailed to
Our Little League season will kick off with two Majors games this Friday. Then on Saturday, we'll have our official Opening Day.
Due to declining participation in years past, the Board has decided not to have a parade this year. In its place, we'll have several contests for the kids (details below).
Here's the agenda for this Saturday:
·9:00 - Tee-ball clinic.
·10:30- Home run derby, running contest, fielding contest. We'll hand out awards for the winner of each contest in four age groups (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12).
·11:45 - Pre-game ceremony.
·12:00 - Majors game.
·1:00, 2:30, 3:30 - Minors games.
We encourage all Little League families to come down to Conway fields for the festivities. We'll have lots of food for sale, free cotton candy and other good stuff.
Please note: Uniforms will be distributed to coaches on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. Many coaches will be handing them out Saturday morning between 10 and 10:30. You can be sure your child will have a uniform before his/her first game.
